Opens a new era of exportation of premium level ultrasound probes with own technology and process

Ultrasound probe is a core part affecting the performance of ultrasound diagnostic machines and takes responsibility of sending and receiving ultrasound signals to internal body. It is a high value added product comprising 20~40% of diagnostic machine price.

According to one market report, in 2005, the world ultrasound diagnostic machine market was 4.7 billion dollars, and domestic market being roughly 90 million dollars worth; GE, Philips, and Siemens, major manufacturers dominate 80% of the worldwide market. Therefore small and medium size companies businesses¡¯ growth capacity has no choice but to be limited. This is one of the medical equipments with price reduction pressure from forerunners and the existence of fierce price competition in the market.

The material that is becoming a breakthrough here is the new material known as the piezoelectric single crystal.
The renown companies from the world has been researching ultrasound probes that use piezoelectric single crystals for the past ten years for mass production but due to high process defect rate mass production has not been achieved.

In March of 2000, Humanscan (CEO Rhim Sung Min, Gyeonggido Ansansi Sukgongdong) was established and has only researched and developed ultrasound probes that used piezoelectric single crystals. In 2001, at MEDICA, the world¡¯s largest medical equipment exhibition, Humanscan displayed the world¡¯s first single crystal ultrasound probe for hearts.

Since 2002, through a development contract with Siemens, Humanscan began a full scale mass production of single crystal ultrasound probe and in 2004, was the first to successfully mass produce in the world. After completing the clinical trials and certification process, Humanscan began delivering single crystal ultrasound probes in 2007 to Siemens. Presently, not only with Siemens but also with GE, ranked first in the business world, Humanscan has signed a supplying contract and have already begun supplying in May of 2008 and will begin a full-scale delivery in the second half of the year. Particularly, a portion of the products being supplied to GE is not a regular probe, instead is a 1.5D probe which is one of the most expensive probes in the market.

Humanscan began supplying a million dollar¡¯s worth in 2007, 5 million dollar¡¯s worth in 2008, and currently secured over 10 million dollars in sales for 2009.
